Shottons grip on 3rd place loosened dramatically after they slipped to their second straight defeat at Ewloe today. Shotton were slow to start and were punished early on when the Ewloe striker latched on to a long ball over the top and cooly finished into the corner. Things only got worse for Shotton as the half went on, as they were struggling to deal with the pace and power of the Ewloe forward. Shotton were sent into the break 3 - 0 down.
Shotton came out a different team in the second half creating plenty of chances but couldnt seem to convert any of them. Shotton were then punished further for their inability to finish after Ewloe launched a counter attack and effectively killed the game off with a fourth goal. A late fightback from Shotton saw goals from Lewis Wright and George Rathbone but they were not enough to take any points from the game.
Shotton slipped to 4th after this defeat and with such a tough run in to come its hard to predict where the points will come from.
