Shotton played some great football in the first half, confidently passing through the defence and through to midfield. Andy and Jake again linked up well on the right and created some early chances with crosses into the box. It seemed as though it would only be a matter of time before Shotton would score the opener. Iwan and Jack both played some good early balls through to the forwards but the ball didn’t quite break to a Shotton player in front of goal.
Boro looked powerful on the break, with many of their players looking twice the size of the Shotton boys. With ten minutes to half time Shotton had the chance to clear the ball but got caught out and Boro took the lead.
In the second half Shotton continued to play the ball around well but couldn’t find the cutting edge to create any clear chances. Joe made a few good runs at the Boro defence but did not quite manage the finish. Again the ball did not fall to Shotton players in the right area. Some good crosses were played into the box in the air and along the floor but never quite into the stride of a Shotton player.
Boro doubled their lead when their striker was given too much room on the right. However he finished a tremendous shot into the corner of the net giving Kristian no chance. Despite going further behind Shotton continued to press for a goal. The Boro keeper made a good save from a free kick from Iwan. In the dying seconds of the game Joe made another great run and set up Nathan for a goal from close range. Unfortunately there was no time to even re-start the game.
Despite the disappointment all the Shotton players congratulated the Boro players. Hopefully we will see a few growth spurts over the summer to catch up the opposition.
Man of the match today was Iwan who along with Jack controlled the centre of midfield.
